For Jordan Love, the number three must hold some sort of significance for the Utah State Aggies legend.
This Just In: I mean, it has to. Let’s think about it for half a second, here.
After supplanting Aaron Rodgers as the starter in Green Bay, nobody outside of perhaps the Packers organization and a small faction of Utah State Aggies alums saw what was coming to Jordan Love.
The Utah State Aggie spent three unceremonious seasons in Green Bay as the backup to the backup to Rodgers. But similar to what weirdness Aaron went through as the backup to Brett Favre before him, so went the awkwardness from backup to NFL starter as Jordan Love ascended the ranks of the Pack.
After Love announced he wasn't going anywhere in Green Bay's third-quarter demolition of Atlanta in the ATL Sunday, it was as if the Aggies legend was performing surgery on the Falcons in the third quarter.
Love completed nine of his last 10 throws in the third quarter out of the halftime whistle.
Then as the third quarter drew to a close at Mercedes-Benz Stadium, Love engineered yet another scoring drive, the Aggies’ legend’s third of the game as the Packers took a 24-12 lead. [Green Bay would lose, 25-24.]
Need I explain that Love accomplished all of this in two games on the road? That had to have felt like three games.
Gotta Love What Comes In Threes
Last week, Love started his journey as a NFL starter in windy Chicago.
The guy was on fire. Love completed 17 of his 24 passes for 245 yards passing and three touchdowns—hence the historical signficance of the number three, in a 38-20 Green Bay victory.
For a guy who was the 26th overall pick of the Packers and happened to get the ol’ stink eye from Rodgers the minute he arrived in Green Bay, Love has to be slow-playing his way into the hearts and minds of the Packers brass—even if fans might have taken a minute to cozy up to the Utah State product.
Not only did Love outplay Rodgers, he supplanted Tim Boyle, both of whom — oh, by the way — are now in New York making Zach Wilson’s life a living hell. [Well, at least Boyle will be now that Rodgers is out with that ruptured Achilles.] I talked about that, here:
That would be Love’s luck, as there would be no love lost for Jordan while Aaron was around, according to what now-former Packers wide receiver Davante Adams said about the Aggie, two years ago:
In addition, Adams took a few subtle digs at Jordan Love, adding in one of several responses that "it was just a one and a half hour practice."
Y’all can just save the love metaphors for yo mamas; the Utah State Aggies man was treated like some bastard stepchild by just about everyone in Green Bay, Davante Adams included—yet Jordan kept his cool like a vet.
But now that Rodgers and Boyle [and Rodgers’ favorite target Davante Adams] are gone, this sports car is ready for the Utah State Aggies legend to drive around.
Since Love has been behind the wheel, he’s completed over 60 percent of his passes for 396 yards and has now thrown for three touchdowns in each of his two games—with zero interceptions.
