Remembering 9/11: Newbie In A Newsroom

Looking back to when it all started as a working journalist

The phone rang on the kitchen wall.

I looked at the LED display. The caller ID on my Uniden handset read Tue. Sept. 11, 2001. The call was from my college adviser. I pressed the speaker button.

"Are you watching the TV right now?" he asked without even saying hello.

"No," I said.

"Well, you should probably turn it on," he replied.
