Welcome Back, Spida: Donovan Mitchell Returns To His Old Web This Tuesday

The Jazz are not the same team they were a year ago. It’s okay to say that. I think that there were several aspects to life in this state that Mitchell never could get over, and vice versa.

But: the godfather of chocolate himself [Mr. Steve Hatch] has himself said he’ll cheer the former Utah Jazz star when Don enters the Vivint Arena building again, on Tuesday night when the Cleveland Cavaliers visit. It will very likely be [barring injury] the second time in a month between now and All-Star weekend that we’ll get to see Mitchell in person. Hatch argues in the second segment that though we may have strong opinions on HOW Don left Utah and his relationship [or lack thereof] with Rudy—we shouldn’t let that cloud our judgment going forward.

But: in segment No. 3 Hatch said he loves this current iteration of the Jazz that is playing with “a chip on their shoulder” and has “a little more fight in them” than that team that had both Mitchell and Rudy Gobert, as well as Joe Ingles and Bojan Bogdanovic.

  • Lauri Markkanen is a surefire All-Star

  • Mike Conley is 8th in the NBA in assists per game [7.6]

  • Jordan Clarkson is averaging 20-4-and-5

We get into that jersey/design game in the third segment of this week’s Jazz podcast. Hatch said that if I sent him those yellow 3/4 pants though, he’d return to sender.

In the meantime, feel free to check out what I said about Kuz’s return to Utah a few weeks ago [it was popular and got downloads, for some odd reason] and the possibility of a trade to Utah.

When you have Jazz coach Will Hardy chatting with Kuz like he was even after the Utes alum’s team lost here, I argued that it does make you wonder.

Finally: I really don’t know what the fans’ reaction to Mitchell will be, Tuesday. I know how deeply hurt my son was upon hearing that his idol was leaving Utah, and so I think a lot of kids — and their parents — are still dealing with that aftereffect.
