Zion's Bank Was Closed For The New Orleans Pelicans In A 121-100 Utah Jazz Home Win!
I talk to the Pelicans PXP guy, probably, and find out why Zion Willliamson sucked so bad in the 4th quarter scoring zero points while the Jazz had six dudes in double figures!
Example:
Me: Zion’s bank was CLOSED—whaddya think about dat?
Him: Well, we got that clear path foul with 4:20 to go in the 3rd…
However, the Pelicans had only hit three 3s out of 25 attempts going into that third quarter, and Zion Williamson who had 26 going into the fourth—didn’t score a POINT in the final 12 minutes.
Ahead by 20 points at the start the fourth quarter, the Jazz kicked their one horse open sleigh into cruise control the rest of the way while the weather outside was frightful. But the fire inside of the Jazz bigs was SO delightful:
Walker Kessler 11 points, 16 rebounds
Jarred Vanderbilt 18 points, 14 rebs
Lauri Markkanen 19 points, 11 rebounds
The Jazz outrebounded New Orleans 59-43 for the game as they stayed perfect [2-0] on the season against the Western Conference frontrunners.
The third factor on Tuesday night was the two-guard tandem of Malik Beasley and Nickeil Alexander-Walker. Beasley and his zone-busting, run-busting 3s [5-12] led to a 21 points, including this stepback splash.
The unsung Jazz hero, however?
Nickeil Alexander-Walked all OVER New Orleans for:
19 points
7-10 shooting
4-6 threes
…ANOTHER huge night for the Canadian, who is slowly turning his assist-to-turnover ratio around—a la another maple syrup lover, BYU guard Rudi Williams. [IYKYK]
Jordan Clarkson [11 points] has been struggling from behind the arc over his last 5 games and so this team effort from Alexander-Walker and Beasley from the land of misfit 3s has helped the Jazz immensely.
The same two teams square off Thursday night in Snow Lake City and so we’ll try to have the Big Easy’s play-by-play voice back on, after the game.
