Humpday: Tyler Bluntly
Utah Utes QB Tyler Huntley gets back at the NFL team that released him before the season. And, vote for the #whatarewedoing Of The Year.
BREAKING NEWS» When Tyler Huntley was released by the Cleveland Browns, I suspect he had no inkling that the best game he’d play all season would be against the team that let the Utah Utes quarterback go.
But that is what happened Sunday. Huntley suited up in the uniform of the Miami Dolphins and led his hometown team to a 20-3 win in Week 17.
To think that the Ute would save his best for last was likely something that few thought would happen, but Huntley did just that.
Throwing for 225 yards passing on 22-of-26 completions versus Cleveland, Huntley made everybody forget about what performative garbage Jameis Winston was going to say for one week and what injury of the month Tua would have.
The former Ute also had seven carries for 57 yards rushing and one touchdown in his first official action since October 20. On his TD run to paydirt, Huntley beat Cleveland’s pursuit to his right edge and then out-sprinted them to the 1 before he barreled into the end zone for his second rushing touchdown of the season.
After the game, Huntley was ebullient in talking to a sideline reporter, telling her that “this win means a lot for this team.”
Though the Ute of course said so with that trademark toothy grin, he accomplished something else for his new team: a lifeline for the playoffs.
With an 8-8 record, Miami must win at the NY Jets January 5, and become cheerleaders for the Kansas City Chiefs that play the Denver Broncos in the Week 18 season finale.
This would not mark the first time that a team has had to turn to Huntley near or in the playoffs; he famously did so for the Baltimore Ravens in relief of Lamar Jackson back in 2020 in a Wild Card Round win and again in 2022 in a narrow loss. «
The What Are We Doing Of The Year
Some People Say » That the #whatarewedoing Of The Year is subjective.
You know what? Those whackadoos are right. Life is very much that way; without waxing too poetic and talking about gut feelings, heartstrings and all that other stuff that made us throw up in our mouths like Will Levis No. 8 Mayonnaise Cologne…
… 2024 was all about laughing at that crazy Aussie Breakdancer at the Paris Olympics [as seen below] or the local yokel who was told that no, his dealer would not return his Subaru so he returned it the hard way—through the front wall of their showroom.
We also had the Kansas State fan who said he would literally stuff a Taco Bell Burrito Supreme up his tookus … if his team lost to BYU. [K-State did, 38-9. And, he did in fact try this according to the info provided on X although it was frozen.]
Unfortunately, we only have room for the FOUR best WAWD candidates that won each of their weekly contests by 20 or more votes. I had to keep it that way, otherwise you’d have at least 50 that were worthy of the honor.
So many good ones, as a matter of fact, that we have to keep it all the way real and provide you with this handy poll on which you may vote for one of the four best:
We’ll reveal the top one on this week’s BVU Show New Year’s Special. «

You can’t see the game-winning shot from Tucker Anderson going down … but you certainly can feel it! Utah State overcame two decades-plus worth of worthlessness on the road and upset No. 20 San Diego State at Viejas Arena, a spot where the Aggies hadn’t won since … 1999. [Anderson had to wait another five seconds before the buzzer sounded on a 67-66 win.] Cue up the Prince music. «
BVU NFL Fantasy League Week 15 Playoffs
We are now, finally, at the witching hour when the first BVU Cup Champion will be crowned. As you already know [if you follow this newser] that was not me. Nor was it Daniel, his son or my son. Nope, it came down to Chris and Heather who came out of nowhere to make it to the Championship Game. It is safe to say, barring a miracle, that Chris will win the 1st Annual BVU Cup.
New Year’s Resolve
Since I already did 12 friggin’ days of wishes for this state including college football, right here …
… and followed that up with a pro sports edition, right here …
… in which I literally begged Ryan Smith to keep the Utah Hockey Club name and get rid of that Yeti idea among others, I can make the cool announcement that the BVU Show [you know, the weekly podcast I’ve done for almost a year] is now on Spotify. Indeed, you can listen to me on your favorite podcasts with your music. Ain’t that some sweet music … well, not in the eyes of haters.
Thanks for reading; be safe and be well. I’ll see ya next time.
